Roads are of good quality but there are some dangerous hill sections. If you are an inexperienced motorcycle rider then think carefully before hiring a motorbike. Every year the island has quite a few road deaths and many visitors have their trip spoiled by a motorcycle accident.
If you have an accident you will be held reponsible for the damage and you will have to pay in cash before your ID is returned.
Its a good idea to check with your local insurance company to see if they can offer you coverage before you leave home.
Scrapes and bruises from motorcycle accidents are known locally as "Koh Chang Tattoos" and happen frequently.
Drive very carefully. Never rush to meet a deadline. Never drink and drive. Drive slowly. Watch out for others on the road all the time.
If you heed these few words you probably won't have any problems.
