We were pleased to see that Koh Chang receives a positive if brief mention in the new Lonely Planet Thailand guide. As usual the owners of the few places that are featured are filled with glee and those in the majority that are ignored mutter and curse. Still at least they decided to visit Koh Chang this time so the information provided is relatively up to date.
We were a little alarmed though to read in the guide that Koh Chang's Pearl Beach - Hat Kai Mook in Thai - was named after the daughter of the owners of one of the resorts there. The thing is Pearl Beach has been called Pearl Beach pretty much since the dawn of time - probably because a pearl was found there once or something wildly original like that. And the daughter in question is only 5 years old. We suspect that someone is pulling the Lonely Planet leg.
But let he who is without sin cast the first stone. We are the first to admit that we make mistakes - not very often mind - so we won't hold it against them. You can buy the new Lonely Planet Guide to Thailand now in bookstores the world over. The price in Thailand is 895 Baht.
