Paradise Island Music Fest

It isn't often that the region is visited by touring bands so it is good news indeed that Thai radio station Max 94.5 is organising the Paradise Island Music Fest. This event will be held at Monkey Island Resort on Koh Mak on May 10th and features a strong line-up of Bands headed by the popular T-Bone. Other acts scheduled to perform are Tattoo Colour, Acapella 7, the delightfully named Sky Kick Ranger and Kai-Jo Brothers. You can find out more about the event (in Thai, alas) at www.fmmax.com or by calling 02-938-5691 # 301. It might be easier though if you are already on Koh chang to travel over there with B.B. Divers who are taking a boat over for the night and returning the following day. They are providing snorkelling or diving together with meals on the boat, as well as entry to the festival. The price is a very reasonable 1,500 Baht for snorkellers or 3,500 for divers. This doesn't include, accommodation. Less is More! - Beach and Underwater Clean-Up

On April 26th the fourth annual Organized Underwater Clean-Up was held in the waters around Koh Chang. The event is affiliated with PADI’s Project AWARE and the clean-up was organized by DASTA, the Designated Area of Sustainable Tourism Administration of Thailand headed by Director, Mr. Worasit Rojanaphanit, and by the Koh Chang National Marine Park. With assistance from the majority of the local dive shops who provided boats, equipment and manpower. The participants managed to remove large quantities of all kinds of rubbish from many of the reefs surrounding the islands and did a great deal to help the marine environment.
This event is one of very few that address the environmental issues resulting from tourism development of Koh Chang so everybody who took part is to be congratulated. We will be happy to publicise and participate in the organised clean-up of all the rubbish abandoned beside the road in Koh Chang when DASTA or a similar public-spirited body organises it.

Forum
Apologies to all our regular readers. While we were off the island on holiday the forum was attacked by evil beastly filthy spammers. We have now deleted them and their foul annoying messages so the forum should be fine again for regular posts.
So for those of you who want to comment, query or complain about Koh Chang-related matters we're pleased to say that we're back in business.
For those of you who are interested in purchasing "special interest" toys, lingerie and the like, sorry but you'll have to look elsewhere.

The Online Guide on KCTV Koh Chang has its own cable TV channel which is available in many of the hotels and resorts on the island. And we're on it on channels 25 and 30 in the form of this advertisement which you can watch here. Basically it tells you how great we are and how you should read our guides and advertise in them. But you know all that already don't you ;) as for the helicopter - no idea what that's all about. Treasure Island? Do you see that prime example of cartographic pulchritude to the left? That's the new "Koh Chang Treasure Map". It is now available all over Koh Chang and is the most accurate and up-to-date map of the island. It is actually a re-working of an earlier version that we used to sell for 100 Baht. We couldn't be bothered selling it this time though so we're giving it away, yes giving it away for nothing! With help from our valued sponsors of course who get the chance to promote their businesses on it. We'll be making 90,000 copies every year so the island will be positively flooded with copies. The front is prepared in a lovely illustrated style for which we are grateful to the mysterious artistic geniuses behind Rungthip Studios. On the back we have very detailed maps of all the beaches and villages together with useful information and numbers. If you want to be in it then contact us. On Top of the World This splendid picture of Koh Chang Grand Laguna Resort in Bang Bao Bay was taken by Koh Chang Airview who are in the process of putting together a fantastic portfolio of aerial photos of Koh Chang and the surrounding islands. They have been kind enough to let us run some of the pictures which we will be doing in the coming weeks. Look out for a spread of their images in the next issue of our Koh Chang Guide. This visit he got a new perspective on the island. read on here Some Like it Hot If you think you can cope with Thailand's spicy cuisine then here's a challenge for you. There is one of those little no-name hole in the wall restaurants that Thailand seems to specialise in just after the Koh Chang TV office on the hill out of White Sands Beach. It serves Khao Gang - pre-cooked rice and curries. Just point at what looks good and they'll give it to you. All their food is excellent, the prices are embarrassuingly cheap, and It's our current favourite - we're there nearly every day. But oh blimey is it hot! Southern Thai cooking is the hottest of the Thai regional cuisines and they certainly don't mess around in this place. As a foreigner you will probably be asked if you know what you're letting yourself in for. 'Pet Maak' means very spicy by the way. But if you're up for the challenge and like your tastebuds turbocharged then we heartily recommend that you give it a go.
